Off to New Homes!

Amos, with his new parents Matt & Kati

So I'm feeling a little sad now that most of the puppies have gone off to their new homes, but I must admit I was rather gleeful last night as I finally took down the puppy pen that had occupied my bedroom for the last two months (I've been sleeping in my guest bedroom for 5 weeks now). I don't think I've ever been so happy to mop a floor :)

I'm lucky because three of the puppies - Tillman (now Major), Amos and Lulu - were adopted by some of my friends that live in state so I will continue to see them from time to time and watch them grow. Ruby is also now living with a great family only a couple minutes away from me so I hope I'll get to see her some as well. Petunia (now Gigi) is now living with a friend in D.C., so although I won't get to see her much, I'm sure I'll receive pictures and updates on a regular basis.

Hazel is still with me... she is scheduled to have surgery on her eyes to correct the entropion on Friday. Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed to her surgery fund. We're nearly there! Once she has a few days to recuperate, she'll be good to go. So if anyone out there knows of someone looking for a great little dog, please send them my way!

Below are some more photos of the puppies with their new owners...

Just a Few New Pictures...

Breakfast Insanity

As you can see, more food ends up on the ground than in their bellies!

First Shots... Ouch!

The puppies went to the vet last week for their first shots. Kati and I had to carry them into the vet in MAIL CRATES. Everyone was weighed, checked over and then stuck with a big, scary needle. The puppies range from 8.5 pounds (Lulu) down to 6 pounds (Ruby).

Everyone is healthy, but Hazel has developed a hereditary problem with her eyes... actually, her eyelids. She has what is called entropion which is a condition where her lower eyelids roll inwards just slightly, and her eyelashes rub against her eyes. If left untreated, scar tissue will build up and she'll go blind. LUCKILY, it's corrected with a simple surgery and she'll never have problems again. I realize no one will want to adopt a puppy with a defect, so I'm going ahead and getting the surgery done myself. I'm speaking with the vet today about the cost, so y'all pray that I don't have a heart attack when I hear how much it will be.

Who's the Boss?

The puppies are out in full force, and I've been letting them out with the big dogs in the backyard to play. Mona Mae is doing a good job keeping them in line and roughing them up a little :)

Parsley Anyone?

So, apparently I should have named this blog "Parsley Puppies" instead of "Pecan Pie Puppies" because well, just look at the photos below. I recently planted some flat-leaf parsley in a pot on my steps outside, and the puppies have now discovered it. And apparently they LOVE it because I can't keep them out of it. Just check out the video and photos below. PS - very sorry that the video is SIDEWAYS but I can't figure out how to fix it, and it's just too cute not to post.

Five Week Old Photos!

If I Didn't Have Animals

Found this today on Dogster courtesy of Jim Willis... this sums it all up :)

If I Didn’t Have Animals

If I didn’t have animals . . .
I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn’t sound like a kennel, and I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.

I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.

I would not have strange presents under my Christmas tree –dog bones, stuffed animals ,toys, treats nor would I have to explain to people why I wrap them.

I would have money ….and no guilt to go on a real vacation.

I would not be on a first-name basis with 6 veterinarians, as I put their yet unborn grand-kids through college.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.

My house would not look like a day care center, toys everywhere .

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.

I would no longer have to Spell the words B-A-L-L-, F-R-I-S-B-E- E, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, B-I-K-E OR C-A-R.

I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too much.

I’d look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading ‘mud’ season.

I would not have to answer the question ‘Why do you have so many animals?’ from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by someone as close to an angel as they will ever get.

How empty my life would be.
